Brief description:

Since the 14th of December 2000, pilot weather reports (PIREPs) have been archived at the IMuK. Related to this project reports about aircraft icing are prepared and provided to the German Weather Service (DWD). The purpose is the setup of an observation archive, so that the information based on the PIREPs can be used by the DWD for the interests of aviation.

Brief description:

The primary objective of this PhD project was to enhance the understanding of the interaction of two complex systems, air traffic and adverse weather. Therefore we investigated the development of an adverse weather diversion model, referred to as DIVMET. The impact of adverse weather and its forcing of aircraft diversions from planned routes are investigated in different modes of adverse weather knowledge. Principles to account for uncertainty in thunderstorm prediction and nowcasting were identified.

Brief description:

The adverse weather diversion model DIVMET was coupled to the global air traffic simulation model NAVSIM, which is running in Salzburg, Austria. An appropriate way for communication was found that enables to deviate several aircraft simulated in NAVSIM simultaneously with DIVMET.

Brief description:

Mithilfe des Modells ADWICE können Gebiete identifiziert werden, in denen ein Vereisungspotential vorliegt. Insbesondere für den Flugverkehr sind solche Warnungen von großer Bedeutung um die Gefahr von Vereisung einzuschätzen. Im Rahmen dieses Projekts soll untersucht werden, ob ADWICE geeignet ist um Vereisungswarnungen für Windkraftanlagen zu erstellen.
