Environmental Meteorology and Climatology work group
The working areas of environmental meteorology involve the immediate habitat of man.
To evaluate the effects of weather, climate and air quality on the human organism several specific complexes are important.
Thermal complex
Actinic complex
Air Hygienic complex
Odor, noise and wind comfort
Due to legal requirements, many of these influencing factors are integral components of spatial planning
Specific numerical models have been developed for such planning tasks that are able to calculate the micro-and meso-scale distributions of the various meteorological variables .
Models of this type are based , such as weather prediction models and climate models, on a set of physical conservation equations . These differential equations are converted into difference equations and solved on a numerical grid . Because of the definition of the task a very fine spatial mesh sizes of 1 m - 100 m is used .
Such models offer the opportunity to examine not only current conditions , but also the impact of changes in boundary conditions. These include:
Land use changes (urbanization , deforestation )
Changes in the composition of the air (smog , EU limits )
local effects of global climate change (City Air 2050)
