Measuring Filelds and Equipment
One of the traditional functions of meteorology is the recording of weather data. To record this information, the institute has a measurement site behind the institute building in Hannover Herrenhausen and one in an almost vacant area at Ruthe, about 15 km south of Hannover.
To reduce the impact of buildings on the readings ,the measurement site in Herrenhausen has a 50 m high mast for measuring instruments. At this site, temperature, humidity , dew point, precipitation, air pressure, wind speed and direction are measured and recorded. The institute has its own continuous climate data measurement series since 1951.
At the measurement site in Ruthe, the same data are measured and recorded and in addition to it the global and diffuse radiation and the CO2 concentration in three planes. Due to the low density of development, a 15 m high mast is installed there.
On the roof of the institute building is a measurement platform, where permanently recordings of the CO2 concentration as well as the global and diffuse radiation are made and photos of the sky are carried out with a cloud observation system (" Hemispherical Sky Imager "). In addition, the measurement platform will be used for alternating series of tests.
