Unmanned aerial systems (UAS) are getting more and more important as platforms for meteorological research. The presentation gives an overview about research activities with UAS at the Institute of Flight Guidance, TU Braunschweig. The projects include the participation at a Polarstern winter cruise to determine boundary layer parameters above sea ice. Further, the investigation of vertical and horizontal aerosol variability in Melpitz near Leipzig is presented, which was performed together with project partners from Tübingen and Leipzig. Especially the altitude where new particle formation starts is analysed.
