1927 Meteorology was studied and taught as part of the Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences under Prof. Dr. H. Seilkopf
01.04.1949 Foundation of the "Institut für Meteorologie, Klimatologie und Gewächshauslehre (Meteorology, Climatology and Greenhouse Studies)" in Sarstedt close to Hildesheim at the "Hochschule für Gartenbau und Landeskultur (Gardening and Land Cultivation)". First director of the institute was Prof. Dr. phil. habil. W. Grundmann
1950 Relocation to Herrenhausen to the premises of the Faculty of Gardening and Land Cultivation
1951 Beginning of meteorological records in Herrenhausen
1952 Renaming as "Institut für Meteorologie und Klimatologie (Institute of Meteorology and Climatology) "
1961 New director: Prof. phil. W. Dammann (1961 until 1974)
1963 Construction of the 50m high measurement mast in Herrenhausen
1975 New director: Prof. Dr. R. Roth (1975-1999)
1979 Appointment of Prof. Dr. D. Etling (Theroretical Meteorology)
1980 Incorporation of the Institute into the department of physics due to university reorganisation
1990 Appointment of Prof. Dr. G. Groß (Environmental Meteorology)
1998 New director: Prof. Dr. T. Hauf (Experimental Meteorology)
2000 Appointment of Prof. Dr. G. Seckmeyer (Radiation)
