50 m Measurement Mast
 |
The highest building on our premises was constructed in 1963.
An ultrasonic anemometer on the top of the mast measures the wind speed and direction and the temperature.
At 10m a cup anemometer installed on an arm measures the wind speed.
At the foot of the mast measurement devices have been set up which supply this homepage with temperature, humidity and precipitation data.
This is not the ideal position for measuring instruments, but our measuring values can be representative for an inner city location. |
Outpost Ruthe
South of Hanover and close to Sarstedt there is a further branch of the institute.
Initially it was fully functional (staff and equipment).
Nowadays its undeveloped area is used for meteorological measurements with automatic measurement devices installed on the premises.
Furthermore, specific climatological problems can be investigated and long-term experiments can be conducted. It is connected to the university data network.

Mechanical Workshop
New ideas take shape in our mechanical workshop. With a broad variety of machine tools (turning lathe, boring and milling machines) new devices for experiments can be developed.
|
|
Measurement Platform on the Roof
| From the measurement platform on the top of the institute's roof there is not only a marvellous
view over the compound in Herrenhausen, it also provides a free horizon for experiments.
Additionally, it hosts the ceilometer.
|
 |
Mobile Weather Station
|
Our mobile weather station registers temperature, humidity, pressure, radiation and wind.
Using solar modules this unit is self-sufficient for many weeks.
|
Mobile Measurement Mast
| With the mobile 17 m weather mast temperature, humidity, pressure and wind force can be measured and recorded in a self-sufficient manner during a time period of several weeks.
A mobile mast system can be the home of different measurement systems up to the height of about 17 m. Using a solar module the registration can be driven completely self-sufficient for many weeks. |
|
Radiosonde System
|
The GRAW radiosonde system is connected to a cross country lap-top and allows for easy to handle radio sounding up to a height up to a height of 30 km. These sondes are compact and light. Therefore, they require less gas compared to other systems. |
Radiation Laboratory
|
In our fully temperature-controlled and absolutely dark radiation laboratory spectrometers can be calibrated. It provides test lamps with different capacities. These test lamps undergo previous checks carried out by the Federal Physical-Technical Institute (Physikalisch-Technische Bundesanstalt PTB).
